In Kurdistan, there are 2 million refugees, most of whom are under the age of 18. This would be like all of King County in Seattle being evacuated to unsafe territory without basic human necessities to live.
Children who are refugees have high chances of being exploited into slave labor, sex slavery, or being recruited into ISIS.
Through our partner Hany Salah and his work with Impact Middle East, safe spaces are created at places like the Noor Center in the Kurdistan region for refugees so they can receive services such as trauma care and counseling, job training, english and computer courses, leadership development, and other basic tools that would equip and empower them to rebuild their lives in a new place.
HOW WE PARTNER:
AWARENESS - To educate the Ballard Church community on the issues faced by refugees and those who are internally displaced or seeking asylum. As we learn, we can become advocates, and will work with Impact Middle East to advocate for this issue in our own city and in the world.
RELATIONSHIP - To work in relationship with national leaders on the ground serving refugees in Iraq including Hany Salah, an Egyptian missionary living in Iraq, who will act as our "cultural brother" and guide us to the most effective ways to give and serve.
FUNDRAISING - To raise financial support throughout the year supporting Hany's work with Impact Middle East and the NOOR Center that provides holistic care for refugees in Northern Iraq. We have chosen to financially partner with Impact Middle East because we believe their systems of transparency and accountability are healthy and that the funds we raise are going towards work that is sustainable, effective, and dignifying.
