A huge fire interrupted the largest attended Sunday so far in the history of Ballard Church. Although the exact cause of the fire is still undetermined, Seattle’s Fire Investigator, Seattle Police, and Seattle’s Arson and Bomb Squad all agree that arson is the most likely cause.
Nearly 300 people were in attendance Sunday February 10th when the fire began. This was the first weekend that Ballard Church launched multiple services and in the middle of their 11am service, during the message from Pastor Paul Diaz, fire broke out. The congregation was immediately forced to evacauate and Ballard Fire Department quickly responded.
Four firetrucks and nearly 20 firefighters responded within several minutes to the scene and helped contain the fire and ensure safety of all attenders. Before the firetrucks arrived Ballard Church staff and interns evacuated the children and discharged multiple fire extinguishers to help fight the fire, until the smoke became too overwhelming.
We are thankful to report that no one was injured and both services – 9:15am and 11am will resume as normally scheduled next week on February 17th. We would like to thank the community and Seattle’s Fire and Police Department for all their hard work and efforts during today’s events.
